How Pathways Helped Belter Tech Publish the First-Ever Zeolite EPD

Pioneering the First EPD for Natural Zeolite as an SCM

Belter Tech is leading the charge toward a lower-carbon future in construction, with a focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing and local supply chains. As part of that mission, the team sought a new level of transparency for one of their key ingredients: natural zeolite sourced from KMI Zeolite.

To achieve this, Belter partnered with Pathways to publish the first-ever EPD for a natural zeolite used as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) - a move that brings new transparency, credibility, and market opportunity to this low-carbon alternative.

How Transparency Drives Market Access

Natural pozzolans like zeolite offer significant environmental advantages, but historically they’ve been underutilized in the concrete industry. One reason: a lack of transparent, verified data on their environmental performance.

“This EPD helps show the potential of zeolite as a low-carbon SCM, and will help drive awareness and adoption of commercially available, U.S.-sourced SCMs across the industry.” - Kevin Shepherd, Director of R&D at Belter Tech

Publishing the EPD helps validate zeolite’s role as a viable SCM — one that meets the same performance and environmental standards as traditional options like fly ash and slag. It creates the foundation for broader specification, procurement, and use in low-carbon concrete mix designs.
